Tea leaves have quite a few enemies when it comes to their shelf-life and preservation. You need to make sure that your leaves are safe from these five elements: sunlight, moisture, odor, air, and heat. These can cause the tea to get damaged and considerably shortens the shelf-life.

How To Store Tea Leaves?

So, how do you store your tea at home? The following points will guide you.

Never Use A Transparent Container To Store Tea Leaves

Transparent containers allow light to get in. As already mentioned, tea leaves lose their quality when exposed to sunlight. While you might not be leaving the container under the sun, the light that comes in your home from the outside can also cause harm to tea leaves. Always use something opaque to store the leaves.

Never Store Tea Near Any Heat Source

Always choose a dark and cool cupboard to store your tea. Never keep it near any other apparatus that emits heat or near the oven. Heat spoils the tea and if you keep tea for a long time near any source of heat, it will gradually lose its flavor.

Always Use Air Tight And Odorless Container

Air and odors can completely spoil the taste of the tea, and that can happen extremely fast. If you are confused about the type of container to use, opt for a metallic container or a ceramic one. The metallic container will have to be left open for some time to get rid of the initial metallic smell it gives out. Also, get a container that will be air-tight. There are such containers available for tea. A ceramic container is the best option but is a bit costly. Never use a container made of plastic, even if it’s air-tight.

Use Resealable Bags

If you are buying tea in large quantity, always opt for the resealable bag. These will keep the tea fresh. It is not advisable to take all the tea leaves out at once. Tea will lose flavor as you keep opening and closing the container. So, only take out as needed.

Now, get a cup of refreshing tea and remember these points.
